The E3 purple-tip tungsten electrode is a premium, rare-earth-doped rod suited for a wide variety of TIG welding tasks. It combines consistent arc ignition, stable welding performance, and a long service life — making it a flexible, all-purpose choice whether you’re welding mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium, or other common alloys. Its non-radioactive composition also makes it a safer alternative to thoriated electrodes, helping to reduce health and disposal concerns associated with radioactive materials.

Available in multiple diameters and lengths, you can select the size that matches your torch setup, material thickness and welding current - from fine sheet TIG to heavier-duty welds. E3 electrodes are also claimed to run much cooler providing faster and reliable arc starting and an extended tip life.

Conforms to standards ANSI/AWS A5 12-92 - BS EN 150 6848:2015

Key Features

Non-radioactive, Rare-earth Alloy Electrode — E3 tungsten uses rare-earth oxides rather than thorium, giving similar conductivity and performance without radioactive concerns.

Excellent Arc Start & Stability (AC & DC Compatible) — Offers consistently easy ignition, smooth arc behaviour and reliable re-ignition — useful for frequent starts, variable materials, or mixed TIG work.

Long Tip Life & Low Burn-off — Runs cooler than many traditional electrodes, reducing tip erosion and meaning less frequent sharpening — especially beneficial for heavy use or long fabrication runs.

High Current-Carrying Capacity & Versatility — Suitable for a broad range of materials (carbon / mild steel, stainless, aluminium, titanium, nickel alloys, etc.) and welding processes, including both AC and DC TIG.

Multi-Size Options — Because electrodes come in various diameters/lengths, you can match the electrode to the job: thin-sheet work, pipe welding, general fabrication or structural TIG work.
