The Weld Star ER312 Stainless Steel TIG Wire is a highly alloyed austenitic-ferritic filler wire designed for TIG (GTAW) welding of stainless steels, difficult-to-weld steels and dissimilar metal combinations. Its high chromium and nickel contents produce a weld deposit with elevated ferrite levels, improving resistance to hot cracking and micro-fissuring in demanding fabrication conditions.
This versatile TIG rod is commonly used for welding similar stainless grades, joining stainless to carbon or low-alloy steels, and creating buffer layers prior to hardfacing or overlay. It also performs well in heat-resistant environments such as industrial furnaces, boiler parts and heat exchangers, delivering reliable strength and corrosion resistance.
Key Features
High-Ferrite Austenitic Stainless Alloy: ER312 offers elevated chromium and nickel levels, producing a weld deposit with significant ferrite content for enhanced hot crack resistance.
Dissimilar Metal Compatibility: Ideal for joining stainless steels to carbon or low-alloy steels, reducing weld cracking risk on heterogeneous joints.
Oxidation & Corrosion Resistance: High chromium content provides strong resistance to oxidation and scaling at elevated temperatures.
Good Weld Metal Strength: Produces welds that can withstand mechanical stress and thermal loads in industrial applications.
Buffer Layer & Overlay Use: Suitable for depositing isolating buffer layers before hardsurfacing or welding structurally different metals.
Reliable Performance: Designed for workshop and production environments with consistent chemistry and fusion characteristics.
Standards Compliance: EN ISO 14343-A – W 29 9 | AWS A5.9 – ER312.
Typical Chemical Composition (%): C: ~0.10–0.12 | Mn: ~1.6–1.8 | Si: ~0.30–0.65 | P & S: ≤0.03 | Cr: ~28–30 | Ni: ~8–10 | Mo: ≤0.75 | Cu: ≤0.75.
Mechanical Properties (Typical): Tensile Strength: high tensile performance (~750–800 MPa typical) | Yield Strength: strong structural performance (~500–610 MPa) | Elongation: ~20–25% | Good impact resistance.
Shielding Gas: TIG – I1 (Argon) per EN ISO 14175.
Welding Positions: PA, PB, PC, PD, PE, PF per EN ISO 6947.
Workshop-Friendly Packaging: Available in multiple TIG diameters (including 1.60mm, 2.40mm, and 3.20mm), supplied in 5kg packs with 1000mm rod length for professional workshop and site use.
