The Weld Star ER317L Stainless Steel TIG Wire is a low-carbon austenitic filler wire designed for welding stainless steels of similar chemical composition, particularly where enhanced resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion is required. Its high molybdenum content provides improved protection in severely corrosive environments compared to standard 316L grades.
This wire is ideally suited to applications exposed to aggressive chemicals, marine conditions and process industries where corrosion performance is critical. While offering excellent corrosion resistance, it is not recommended for structural service above 400°C or for cryogenic applications. Commonly used across chemical processing, petrochemical, food production and papermaking industries. ER317L delivers reliable weld integrity in harsh operating conditions.
Key Features
High Molybdenum Austenitic Alloy: Increased molybdenum content improves resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in aggressive environments.
Low Carbon Content: Reduces the risk of intergranular carbide precipitation, improving long-term corrosion performance.
Excellent Chemical Resistance: Well suited for severely corrosive service conditions in chemical and petrochemical industries.
316L-Type Weld Deposit with Enhanced Protection: Similar metallurgical structure to 316L but with improved corrosion resistance.
Process Industry Ready: Commonly used in marine, papermaking, food processing and chemical plant fabrication.
Service Temperature Guidance: Not recommended for structural service above 400°C or for cryogenic applications.
Standards Compliance: EN ISO 14343-A – W 18 15 3 L | AWS A5.9 – ER 317 / 317L.
Typical Chemical Composition (%): C: <0.03 | Mn: 1.43 | Si: 0.45 | S: <0.030 | P: <0.030 | Ni: 13.60 | Cr: 18.82 | Mo: 3.55 | Cu: <0.75.
Mechanical Properties (Typical): Tensile Strength: ≥480 MPa | Yield Strength: ≥300 MPa | Elongation: ≥25% (Values may vary depending on welding parameters, base material and shielding gas).
