The Weld Star ER385 Stainless Steel TIG Wire is a super austenitic filler developed for welding highly corrosion-resistant stainless steels in extremely aggressive chemical environments. With very high nickel and added copper content, it delivers outstanding resistance to stress corrosion cracking and sulphuric acid attack.

Its fully austenitic microstructure provides excellent stability, reducing sensitivity to ferrite and sigma phase precipitation often seen in high-molybdenum alloys. This makes ER385 particularly suitable for demanding industrial applications exposed to seawater, acids and harsh chemical processes.

Key Features

Super Austenitic Stainless Alloy: High nickel content ensures exceptional resistance to stress corrosion cracking.

Excellent Acid Resistance: Added copper provides strong resistance to sulphuric and phosphoric acid environments.

Outstanding Pitting & Crevice Resistance: Ideal for chloride-rich and seawater-exposed applications.

Stable Fully Austenitic Structure: Less sensitive to ferrite and sigma phase formation than conventional high-molybdenum grades.

Designed for Severe Environments: Performs reliably in aggressive chemical and marine conditions.

Consistent Quality: Produced from virgin raw materials by specialised steel mills for dependable performance.

Standards Compliance: EN ISO 14343-A – W 20 25 5 Cu L | AWS A5.9 – ER385.

Typical Chemical Composition (%): C: <0.025 | Mn: 1.72 | Si: <0.50 | P & S: <0.020 | Ni: 24.87 | Cr: 19.79 | Mo: 4.24 | Cu: 1.36.

Mechanical Properties (Typical): Tensile Strength: ≥510 MPa | Yield Strength: ≥320 MPa | Elongation: ≥25% (Values may vary depending on welding parameters, base material and shielding gas).
