The Weld Star ER 309LSi is an austenitic stainless steel MIG wire engineered for high performance "dissimilar" welding. Because it contains higher levels of Chromium (23%) and Nickel (12%) than standard 308L or 316L wires, it is perfectly suited for joining stainless steel to mild or low alloy steels. This enriched composition ensures the resulting weld maintains its corrosion resistance and structural integrity, even when diluted by the carbon steel base metal.

Featuring a Low Carbon (L) content, this wire significantly reduces the risk of intergranular corrosion. Additionally, the High Silicon (Si) content enhances weld pool fluidity, delivering an exceptionally smooth deposit and a clean aesthetic finish. Whether you are creating a buffer layer before hard facing or joining 304/316 stainless to ferritic steel, Weld Star ER 309LSi provides the metallurgical stability and feed reliability required for certified industrial projects.

Key Features

Dissimilar Metal Specialist: The premier choice for welding stainless steel to carbon/mild steel and joining 3Cr12 alloys.

Size Range:

- 0.8mm: Optimised for thin gauge dissimilar joints and intricate maintenance work.

- 1.0mm & 1.2mm: The heavy duty standard for structural transitions in the chemical and transport industries.

High-Silicon Fluidity: Increased Si content provides superior wetting action, resulting in a flat, "wet out" bead that reduces post weld grinding.

Low Carbon Integrity: Minimises carbide precipitation to ensure the joint remains corrosion resistant throughout its service life.

Buffer Layer Versatility: Ideal for applying a transition layer on mild steel components before applying specialised hard facing overlays.
