The Weld Star ER 312 is a high alloy austenitic stainless steel MIG wire renowned for its exceptional versatility and crack resistance. Often referred to as the "Universal" or "Problem Solver" wire, it produces a two phase weld deposit with a high percentage of ferrite in an austenite matrix. This specific metallurgical balance makes it virtually immune to hot cracking, even when welding highly diluted or "difficult to weld" steels.

This wire is the premier choice for dissimilar metal joining, such as connecting mild steel to stainless steel, and for the repair of tool steels, armour plates, and manganese steels. With its high Chromium (Cr) content, it offers excellent oxidation resistance at high temperatures (up to 420°C).
