The Weld Star SG3 (G4Si1) is an elite grade solid MIG wire designed for the high strength welding of unalloyed and structural steels. While standard SG2 wires are sufficient for general work, the SG3 is alloyed with increased levels of Manganese (Mn) and Silicon (Si). This specific chemistry provides two major advantages: superior deoxidation, which helps prevent porosity when welding over light rust or mill scale, and a higher tensile strength in the finished weld.
